Presentation¶
What is Photoglide?¶
Photoglide is a platform that helps waterpersons and photographers connect, bridging the gap between those who take photos and those who appear in them.
Photoglide offers two simple features:¶
You can search for photos by location and date.
You can upload your photos to share them on Photoglide, with the option to protect them for potential sale.
The idea was born from decades of experience in wave sports.
The Photoglide concept:¶
You’re riding on a spot, the light is perfect, a photographer is shooting from the shore, but you don’t know them… how do you find those photos?
You’re a photographer capturing waterpersons and want to share or sell your images… but how do you connect with the people you photographed?
Photoglide solves this by allowing photos to be stored and found by place and date, and by enabling direct contact between photographers and waterpersons without Photoglide being involved in the transaction.
How does it work?¶
Photo search¶
Photos can be searched directly on a world map, using combined location and date filters.
Free-access photos:¶
You can download the photo in full resolution.
Rights remain with the author: commercial use or sharing without permission is prohibited.
Protected photos:¶
Blurred image with watermark; contact with the author is required to obtain the original image.
Photoglide allows you to contact the author via an email request form.
The author can then reach out to you directly for any transaction involving their photo.
Photoglide does not take part in the transaction and receives no commission.
Photo uploads¶
Photographers upload their photos to Photoglide and specify:
Where and when the photo was taken.
Whether the photo is free-access or protected (blurred, restricted use).
Attention
Surf-specific etiquette rules:
If your photos were taken at a little-known and uncrowded spot (“secret spot”), it is very important to respect the place and its users by not revealing the exact location of the spot.
In this case, the recommended approach is to place the spot offshore and name it “secret”. That way, kooks won’t be able to disturb the locals.
Are there any limits?¶
Yes, each photographer can upload up to 10 photos per day.
Two reasons for this:
Data center storage has an environmental impact. Let’s keep it minimal.
At Photoglide, we believe it’s better to share a few quality photos than dump an entire memory card.
Is it free or paid?¶
Photoglide is currently completely free.
The primary goal is to fulfill a need and help photographers and waterpersons connect.
Things may evolve in the future.
Why aren’t my photos published immediately?¶
Because surfing is the main activity involved, and surfing has rules:
We want to protect the confidentiality of weather conditions on spots.
We don’t want outsiders to use Photoglide as a real-time weather site and overrun confidential spots.
Also, because photos must be moderated
We check they contain no inappropriate content (violence, pornography, child exploitation…).
We ensure they are relevant to the Photoglide theme.
So, your photos will be visible the day after they were taken.
Who are the waterpersons?¶

Waterpersons practice activities such as surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, kayaking, parawing, etc.
People often say Watermen, but here, we embrace everyone — men, women, and rainbows — so we say Waterpersons.
